After all the stress, overindulgence, shopping and travel that accompanies the holiday season, it is time to think about how to use the New Year to reset, refresh and restart.

The wonderful thing about our bodies is that they are extremely resilient and, with a little tender loving care, can quickly recover from all the pleasant abuses to which we just subjected them.

There are several things you can do to help your body recover more quickly while boosting your mood and overall wellbeing.

At The Pureganic Cafe, we believe that what you eat and drink matters—your health begins with your choices in food! Take a peek at some of the ways you can kickstart your health moving into the new year.

Eat with intent.

Even during the holidays, when overindulgence is rampant, there are lots of things you can do to help yourself from going off the rails.

Eat often – eating smaller meals and snacks throughout the day is a great way to help keep your mind and body satisfied without overindulging. This can be especially effective if the food and drinks are fresh, healthy and organic. Plant based and gluten free foods can be ideal to both keep you satisfied and help your body rebalance.

Enjoy what you eat – make sure that you enjoy and savor the food and drink you are eating. Don’t eat just because something is in front of you, or out of habit or boredom. If there is nothing to enjoy, have a glass of sparkling water or even a sip of wine.

Eat healthy – take advantage of healthy food and drink options when they are available. Nibble on crudites instead of fried food. Drink mineral water or wine instead of hard alcohol. Whenever possible opt for plant based, gluten free, dairy free and low glycemic food. You will be glad you did – and so will your body.

Get some exercise.

Running on the treadmill, lifting weights or spending hours at the gym is not for everyone, but getting exercise doesn’t mean torturing yourself doing something you hate. Going on a walk through the park, taking the stairs instead of the elevator or even doing some work around the house are all forms of physical activity that will not only boost your mood but also help you feel better.

Between celebrations, focus on plant-based meals.

If you have been ultra-enjoying holiday celebrations, especially the food and drinks, you may feel the temptation to skip meals or skimp on serving sizes when you sit down for meals—this is not a healthy choice. One of the most important things you can do between holiday parties this season is focus on eating wholesome, plant-based meals that will nourish and replenish your body. At The Pureganic Cafe, we feature only delicious vegan meals, snacks and drinks that are all made fresh daily in our own kitchen.
